53-62 Comprehensive Wetland Management Plan
A Plan is in the works for the watershed of Anoka County Ditch 53-62 in
Blaine, Minnesota, which will help landowners develop a portion of their
property, while at the same time conserving and in some cases improving
the wetlands in this area. The plan uses a provision in the Minnesota
Wetland Conservation Act (WCA) for the creation of a Comprehensive
Wetland Management Plan (CWMP). The CWMP will allow the wetlands of entire
53-62 watershed to be managed as a single unit. Using this type of approach,
the uplands are aggregated, making them more both more valuable and more
usable; while the wetlands are combined making a higher-quality, contiguous
wetland complex allowing for greater biodiversity and better water quality
function.
