Hardwood Creek Rehabilitation

The Watershed of Hardwood Creek
Hardwood Creek flows out of Rice Lake in Hugo, continues through the City
of Forest Lake and outlets into Peltier Lake in the City of Lino Lakes.
Sometimes referred to as Judicial Ditch 2 (JD-2), Hardwood Creek/JD-2 serves
several important roles in the communities it is a part of. The creek provides
agricultural drainage for the farms in the Hardwood Creek watershed, it
is a major stormwater conveyance for these cities and it serves its historical
purpose of providing habitat and open space. Hardwood Creek is also one
of the main water sources for Peltier Lake and directly contributes to
the lake's water quality.

Hardwood Creek at Harrow Avenue
For a number of years, Hardwood Creek has been asked to serve all of these
needs and it has done so with mixed success. While all of these needs ultimately
require the creek to move water downstream, they demand different rehabilitation
considerations. This plan is a first-step toward managing the creek as
a whole and improving Peltier Lake as well.
